Fire Pit Installation in Fernandina Beach, FL
Fire draws people together. It always has. A well-crafted fire feature becomes the heart of your outdoor space, the place where conversations slow down and evenings stretch on.
Custom Fire Features Built With Natural Stone
A fire pit is a permanent outdoor feature designed to safely contain a fire for warmth, ambiance, and gathering. At Bloom and Stone Outdoor Designs, we build custom fire features using natural stone that become the gravitational center of your outdoor living space, the element that makes people stay outside longer and come back more often.
We design fire pits, fire tables, outdoor fireplaces, and linear fire features that are as beautiful unlit as they are when flames are dancing. Every fire feature we build is constructed from natural stone, hand-selected to complement the surrounding landscape and hardscape materials. The result is a piece that looks like it grew from the land rather than something purchased from a catalog.
According to the American Society of Landscape Architects, fire features rank among the top five most requested outdoor design elements year after year. In Northeast Florida's mild winter climate, a fire pit extends comfortable outdoor use well into December and January, when evening temperatures make firelight not just appealing but genuinely warming.
Fire Features We Design and Install
From rustic stone fire pits to sleek linear fire tables, we build features that match your style and how you gather.
Custom Stone Fire Pits
Our signature offering is the custom-built natural stone fire pit. These are not prefabricated kits set on a patio. They are hand-laid stone structures built on engineered bases with proper drainage, heat shielding, and ventilation. We build round, square, and organic-shaped pits using fieldstone, stacked ledge stone, travertine, and locally sourced coquina.
Each fire pit is designed in proportion to its surrounding patio and seat wall configuration. We consider sight lines from the house, prevailing wind direction along the coast, and the distance to plantings and structures. The goal is a fire pit that feels perfectly placed, as if it was always meant to be there.
Fire Tables
Fire tables bring the warmth and glow of flame to a dining or conversation setting. Built as a long, rectangular feature with a linear burner, fire tables sit at seating height and serve as both a heat source and a dramatic centerpiece. We build ours with natural stone tops and bases, often matching the patio material, and equip them with gas burners for instant-on convenience.
Fire tables are especially popular among our Ponte Vedra and Amelia Island clients who entertain frequently and want a fire element that integrates seamlessly into a dining or lounge arrangement rather than standing apart as a separate destination.
Outdoor Fireplaces
An outdoor fireplace makes a bold architectural statement. It provides a vertical focal point, a sense of enclosure, and a level of radiant warmth that open fire pits cannot match. We build outdoor fireplaces with natural stone veneers, properly engineered fireboxes, and chimney systems that draw smoke up and away from seating areas.
Fireplaces can serve as the anchor for an entire outdoor room, with seat walls extending from either side, a stone mantel above, and a patio radiating outward. For properties in Fernandina Beach and Northeast Florida, an outdoor fireplace paired with a covered structure creates a space that is genuinely usable in any weather short of a tropical storm.
Gas vs. Wood-Burning Fire Features
Both have their place. Here is how we help you choose.
Gas (Natural Gas or Propane)
- Instant ignition with a switch or remote control
- Clean burning with no smoke, ash, or sparks
- Adjustable flame height for precise heat control
- Compatible with fire glass, lava rock, and decorative media
- Ideal for covered or semi-enclosed spaces with proper ventilation
- Lower maintenance with no wood storage or cleanup required
Wood-Burning
- Authentic crackle, aroma, and dancing flame patterns
- No gas line installation required
- Higher radiant heat output for cooler evenings
- Traditional gathering experience with log tending
- Best suited for open-air settings with adequate clearance
- Local hardwoods like live oak provide excellent long-burning fuel
Many of our clients choose gas for convenience and clean operation. For those who crave the primal experience of a real wood fire, we build wood-burning pits with properly engineered spark screens and clearance zones. We are happy to design either or both.
How We Build Your Fire Feature
From initial conversation to the first evening gathered around the flames.
Listen
We discuss how you envision using the fire feature, whether you prefer gas or wood-burning, and how it connects to your broader outdoor living plans. We assess your property for optimal placement, wind patterns, and code requirements.
Design
We develop a detailed plan with stone selections, burner specifications, seating layout, and 3D renderings. The fire feature is designed as an integrated element of your overall landscape, coordinated with patio materials, plantings, and lighting.
Build
Our team constructs the fire feature from the foundation up. For gas features, we coordinate gas line installation with licensed plumbers. Every stone is hand-placed and mortared or dry-stacked to achieve the design intent. We test, light, and adjust before handing you the controls.

Fire Pit FAQ
Permit requirements vary by municipality and HOA. In most areas of Nassau County, small recreational fire pits do not require a permit, but gas-line installations and built structures may require building permits and inspections. We handle all permit research and applications as part of our standard process so you do not need to navigate the requirements yourself.
The National Fire Protection Association recommends a minimum of 10 feet from any structure, and many local codes require 15 feet or more. We also account for prevailing wind direction, nearby vegetation, and overhanging trees when determining placement. Every fire feature we design meets or exceeds all applicable clearance requirements.
Custom natural stone fire pits typically range from $5,000 to $15,000 depending on size, stone selection, and whether gas or wood-burning is specified. Fire tables generally fall in the $8,000 to $20,000 range. Outdoor fireplaces, due to their structural complexity, typically start at $15,000 and can exceed $35,000 for large-scale designs with extended seat walls and premium stone.
Yes. Northeast Florida's climate makes fire pits usable virtually year-round. During the cooler months from November through March, a fire pit provides genuine warmth that extends outdoor comfort into the evening hours. During warmer months, many of our clients use gas fire features at a low flame setting for the ambiance and glow rather than the heat, creating a focal point for evening gatherings regardless of the temperature.
For the exterior structure, we recommend dense, non-porous stones like granite, limestone, and bluestone that can withstand heat cycling without cracking or spalling. The interior fire ring uses fire-rated materials that are engineered for direct flame exposure. We never use river rock, sandstone, or other porous materials that can trap moisture and crack explosively when heated. Every stone we select is tested for heat tolerance and coastal durability.
